A total of 8,816 South Korean trainee doctors have submitted their resignations in protest of the government's plan to expand the enrollment of medical students, Yonhap reported on Wednesday, citing the country's health ministry.

A civic group filed a complaint Wednesday against the striking trainee doctors, and leaders of a doctors' association have asked police to investigate them for violating the medical and other laws, according to Yonhap.
