The U.S. on February 20 vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution that would have demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
The draft received 13 supporting votes of the council's 15 members, with Britain abstaining. To be adopted, a Security Council draft resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no veto from any of the five permanent members – Britain, China, France, Russia and the U.S.
