UK court holds hearing on extradition of Julian Assange

01:43

On February 20, the High Court in London held a hearing on whether to extradite Julian Assange, the founder of the "WikiLeaks" website, to the United States. Assange is detained in a British high-security prison and, due to health reasons did not appear in court and neither did he participate via video. Outside the court, hundreds of Assange supporters from around the world held a demonstration, demanding a fair judgment and condemning the U.S. request for Assange's extradition.

Assange founded the "WikiLeaks" website in 2006. The site exposed a large number of diplomatic cables and confidential U.S. military documents during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars in 2010, revealing war crimes committed by the U.S. military.
