China noted straight-sets victories in both men's and women's matches during the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Team Championships Finals in Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday.
In the men's singles, China's Wang Chuqin, Fan Zhendong and Ma Long ended their matches 3-0 against Romania's Ovidiu Ionescu, Eduard Ionescu and Darius Movileanu respectively.
In specific, Wang launched his winning campaign 10-7, 11-1, 11-4 over Ovidiu Ionescu.
Fan cruised to an 11-3, 11-6, 11-5 victory over Eduard Ionescu as China led by two sets.
Ma outplayed Movileanu 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 to seal the deal.
In the women's singles, China's Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi defeated Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut, Jinnipa Sawettabut and Orawan Paranang 3-0 respectively.
Chen held a firm grip of her opener against Suthasini Sawettabut, emerging victorious 11-3, 11-5, 11-0 to put China in a commanding position.
"As the knockout stage starts from today, I felt that I was more focused on the game," said Chen. "Facing different opponents, you may have different form, and I just went for the win."
As for her third-game win without dropping a single point, Chen remarked, "I just focused on applying my techniques and tactics in every point. In the knockout stage, I cannot loosen on any point."
Sun overcame Jinnipa Sawettabut 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.
Sun said, "Every match in the knockout stage is a do-or-die battle. Whether we play or not, we just make full preparations for every match."
Wang gained the upper hand in her spectacular rallies with Paranang as she triumphed 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 to put the game to an end.
China will face hosts South Korea in the women's quarterfinals, while setting up a clash with Japan at the same stage in the men's category.
