Twelve years ago, despite having a long history of beekeeping, Miyun had only 600 beekeeping households and 40,000 bee colonies. Today, the number of beekeeping households has risen to 2,144, with 123,500 bee colonies, accounting for 51.5 percent of the total bee population in Beijing and making it the largest beekeeping area in the city.
