As a time honored tradition, tangyuan is a must-have dessert during the Lantern Festival. This traditional snack is made of glutinous rice shaped into balls and stuffed with fillings served in a hot broth. With its round shape, tangyuan is a symbol of togetherness and completeness in Chinese culture. People eat this dish in the hope of bringing good luck, sweetness and joy to their lives. Nowadays, Chinese people make a variety of creative tangyuan to cater to eyes and appetites alike. As a symbol of good luck, it is also served at important occasions like family reunions and weddings.
