The Mazu Pilgrimage on Meizhou Island is an important part of the Lantern Festival, and is acknowledged as a component of this UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The Mazu Pilgrimage spans from the eighth to the fifteenth day of the first month of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, which means it is celebrated together with the Lantern Festival which takes place on 15th day of the Chinese lunar calendar.
