Jumping through bonfires is an annual Chinese New Year tradition of residents in south China's Meizhou to pray for good fortune. The fire-jumping tradition – usually performed around the Lantern Festival – often attracts thousands of bystanders every year. The Lantern Festival – which is on the 15th day of the first month in the Chinese traditional calendar – marks the final day of Chinese New Year celebrations.
