Transportation, water supply restored for island residents after ship-bridge collision

00:52

A temporary dock has been built and started operating on Sanmin Island, which lost its only access to the outside world after a ship-bridge collision. Due to misoperation by the crew, a container ship hit two piers of the Lixinsha Bridge in Nansha District. The collision, which killed five and injured several others, caused the bridge to fracture. As the bridge is the only transportation route for some 8,000 people on Sanmin Island, local authorities worked overnight to build a temporary dock and put it into operation. Currently, two ferries are providing services at the dock, able to carry 80 people on each trip.
