As missiles fall on Ukraine, windows are shattering all over the country. Glass has become one of the most sought-after materials in Ukraine's reconstruction. Since the start of the conflict, around 750 million square meters worth of windows have shattered in Ukraine, and this has forced many people to leave their homes. Ukraine has no domestic production of sheet glass and has struggled to reglaze. Before the war, Ukraine relied heavily on Russia and Belarus for sheet glass, but those trade links were cut after Russia's military operation. So now, almost all of Ukraine's Glass is imported from other European countries - this takes time and is also expensive. A charity organization called Insulate Ukraine has been producing cost-efficient windows that can be built in just 15 minutes using materials that don't shatter. It's hoped that the temporary measures will keep Ukrainians warm and in their own homes until a new glass factory is completed in the country.
