Canadian teenager Christoper Morales-Williams set a new world indoor record for the men's 400m on Saturday after surging to victory in 44.49 seconds at a U.S. collegiate meeting in Arkansas.
The 19-year-old from Ontario, a sophomore student at the University of Georgia, scorched home to win ahead of JeVaughn Powell (45.61) and Chris Robinson in 45.62 during the Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Morales-Williams' time bettered the previous world mark of 44.52 set by American sprinter Michael Norman in March 2018.
"He ran an indoor Personal Best of 46.05 on his 400m season opener in Boston in January and improved to 45.39 in Clemson before his record-breaking run in Arkansas," worldathletics.org noted.

Earlier on February 18, Dutch sprinter Femke Bol improved her own world indoor women's 400m record to 49.24 in Apeldoorn.
"His (Morales-Williams') run on Saturday means that both the men's and women's world indoor 400m records have been broken within a week," worldathletics.org added.
