The Chinese People's Armed Police Force worked nine hours to restore traffic flow on the Sichuan-Xizang highway. Starting Thursday night, the snowstorm disrupted traffic along multiple sections of the highway in Chamdo City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.
Many sections, stretching over 100 kilometers, were badly impacted by a heavy snowstorm. Snow throwers, snow removal vehicles, ice breakers and loaders helped with rescue work and cleared 70,000 cubic meters of snow. Armed police forces had to endure high altitudes of over 4,000 meters, low visibility and low temperatures. Free-flowing traffic was restored on all affected sections around 6 p.m. on February 23.
