The Lantern Festival was celebrated last week in China. In southeast China's Fujian Province, crowds in Putian City gathered for a 300-year-old fireworks tradition of spraying molten iron to pray for peace and fortune. In Hua'an County, women and children of the Gaoshan ethnic minority group danced with baskets filled with flowers and grains to wish for a good harvest this year. In Hong Kong, large screens in shopping malls broadcast the CMG Lantern Festival Gala. Pop-up events staged performances and gave away red packets. Macao observed traditions such as lion dances and making sticky rice balls called tangyuan, a Lantern Festival treat. The city also held a concert and a fireworks show. Guo Tianqi reports from Chengdu City in southwest China, where entrepreneurs and visitors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan celebrate the Lantern Festival at a local carnival.
