Earlier in February, the ROK government announced that it would increase the number of college medical students to 5,058 from the 2025 academic year, up from 3,058 currently, to address the shortage of doctors. By 2035, ROK will add about 10,000 doctors. Since February 19, nearly 9,000 doctors have resigned, more than 10,000 college medical students have applied for suspension, and many hospitals are short of staff and operating difficulties. The ROK government announced on the 23rd that it will raise the crisis level of the medical system to the highest level of "serious", and fully approve all hospitals to carry out online outpatient until the end of the collective action of doctors.

CGTN stringer took to the streets of ROK to speak with the protesting doctors and listen to their demands and feelings. Kim Sung-geun, a 53-year-old medical school professor, said South Korea's current medical problems cannot be solved by expanding the enrollment of medical students, and the government should reconsider and correct its wrong policies.
