Guaranteeing food security for China's 1.4 billion population with only nine percent of the world's arable land has long been a primary concern for the nation's top leadership. In recent years, policy reforms and legislation changes, including a new food security law enacted in December 2023, have jointly ensured food security, farmland protection and agricultural modernization.
