NPC Deputy: General physicians are needed to carry out patient allocation for China's 447 million villagers

There was no medical service in Qingxi Village for nearly three years before emergency room doctor Xu Xiaochan volunteered to help.

"To get to the clinic, villagers had to walk for over an hour. This was even after they took a shortcut by climbing mountainous roads," Xu told CGTN.

Because of her two-year experience in the village, Xu was elected as a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress last year. At the Two Sessions, she raised suggestions on the expansion of village doctors and got feedback from the National Health Commission.

The organ decided to introduce a mechanism for targeted training of such staff, waiving tuition and accommodation fees for junior college students who choose to be village doctors after graduation. “We've solved the problems of the dearth of village doctors. Now it's how to better their abilities that we should worry about.”

Check out Xu's story as she explains in detail her suggestion submitted to the country's top legislature this year.
