U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday said he hoped there would be a ceasefire deal between Israel and militant group Hamas by the time of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which starts on March 10.

Biden announced earlier that the United States would begin delivering relief supplies to Gaza by air, following the deaths of more than 100 Palestinians in an aid convoy.

"We need to do more, and the United States will do more," Biden told reporters at the White House.

The announcement comes as negotiations continue for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This is amid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has been under siege since Hamas's October 7 attacks on Israel.

More than 100 people were killed and at least 700 wounded on Thursday as Israeli troops opened fire on a crowd of people scrambling for aid in Gaza City, according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.

The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has surpassed 30,000, according to the Gaza health ministry on Thursday, with the majority being children and women.
