CPPCC to continue contributing to Chinese modernization: spokesperson

This year, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee will continue making contributions and providing suggestions for realizing the goal of Chinese modernization, said Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the second session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, on Sunday.

Liu said at a press conference in Beijing that the CPPCC National Committee in January organized a biweekly consultative seminar on pushing forward the high-quality development of the financial system, adding that it will also hold thematic standing committee meetings to discuss topics like the construction of a high-level socialist market economy and supporting modernization with Chinese characteristics with high-quality population development.

To conclude the committee's work in 2023, Liu said it conducted in-depth research and investigation and provided in-depth consultation on political affairs to fulfill its responsibilities. The spokesperson listed the committee's work in 2023 in terms of the economy, politics, culture, society and ecology.

In terms of the economy, the committee organized various activities including thematic standing committee meetings on topics of expanding domestic demand, building a modernized industrial system, promoting high-level opening up and the implementation of major sci-tech deployments.

On the political side, the committee held meetings to provide suggestions around the topics of democracy, the legal system and affairs related to ethnic groups, religion, and China's Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The National Committee of the CPPCC is the country's top political advisory body. It will hold its annual session from March 4 to 10.
