China recycled 4.5 million tonnes of used household appliances in 2023, which contained significant quantities of precious metals such as gold, silver, copper and tin as well as plastics, according to data from relevant industry associations.
Statistics show that that recycling 1 tonne of used household appliances can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide, by about 4.7 tonnes. So far, about 20 percent of used home appliances in China have been recycled through formal channels that promote environmentally friendly dismantling and recycling practices.
Failure to properly handle used household appliances, such as hastily dismantling them and carelessly disposing of the remaining parts, not only leads to severe environmental pollution but also prevents valuable components and materials from being reused.
