NPC Spokesperson: Legislation work fruitful in 2023

The National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, on Monday said that the 14th NPC and its Standing Committee produced a fruitful legislative output in 2023.

Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the second session of the 14th NPC, made the remarks when briefing the press on the NPC session scheduled to run from March 5 to 11.

"The legislative planning was completed, and the legislative tasks for the current five-year period were arranged in an integrated manner, with the plan containing 130 items, including 79 category one items and 51 category two items," Lou said.

In the course of the year, six pieces of laws were enacted, eight pieces of laws were amended, one decision was made to submit a legal bill to the NPC session for deliberation, 11 decisions on relevant legal matters and major issues were adopted, and 18 bills were under deliberation, the spokesperson noted.

The NPC Standing Committee "attaches great importance to the enforcement of laws, and carried out five law enforcement inspections in 2023, involving a number of laws such as the Seed Law and the Work Safety Law," Lou introduced.

Noting that the legislative work of the current NPC Standing Committee achieved a good start in 2023, he said that the NPC Standing Committee will effectively carry out the duties and missions of the national legislature and promote a more scientific, complete, unified and authoritative socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics in the next step.
