A spokesperson for China's top legislature said Monday that the six principles proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping for upholding and improving the people's congress system make up the valuable experience the system has gained over the past 70 years and they serve as the fundamental guidance for advancing the system on a new journey.

Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks while briefing the press on the session scheduled from March 5 to 11.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NPC. In this context, when asked about the important experience the people's congress system has gained over the past 70 years, Lou pointed out the six principles elaborated by Xi at the Central People's Congress Work Conference in 2021: upholding the leadership of the Communist Party of China, using a system of institutions to ensure the people run the country, advancing law-based governance on all fronts, upholding democratic centralism, keeping to the path of socialist political development with Chinese characteristics, and continuing to modernize China's system and capacity for governance.

Lou added that the people's congress system has acted as an important institutional guarantee for China's rapid economic growth and long-term social stability.
