02:52

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a crucial year for the realization of the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan, which spans from 2021 to 2025. Huang Shouhong, head of the work report drafting team and director of the State Council Research Office, said the report lays down key policies with public opinion as its foundation.

By addressing concerns from all sides, the content of the report is accurate and solid. According to Huang, the report was drafted under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. It also follows the policies and plans of the 2023 Central Economic Work Conference. China has set a target of around five percent economic growth in 2024.

Huang said China is confident of realizing this goal and shall be able to achieve such a level of economic development, "as the fundamental drivers of the development of China's economy, including achieving a growth rate of 5.2 percent last year, have not changed and in many aspects are strengthening significantly. Since the beginning of this year, the positive factors for economic development have been increasing, while some of the unfavorable factors that constrained economic development last year are weakening. The effects of major policy measures taken since last year are continuing to emerge this year."
