With flowers coming into bloom this spring, wiling away time walking in a sea of blossoms is a first choice for many people who are eager to be closer to nature. In Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, a rising number of visitors are heading to Yuantongshan Park this spring, where a cherry blossom festival is underway.

Over a thousand cherry blossom trees have come into bloom in the old park. Together with the blooming hall crabapple flowers, which have similar petals to cherry blossoms, they have formed a phenomenon known as "Yuantong Huachao," literally meaning a wave of flowers at Yuantongshan Park. In 2017, "Yuantong Huachao" was listed as a form of intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan Province.

Opened on March 2, the cherry blossom festival offers more than flowers. Visitors are able to experience local forms of intangible cultural heritage, performances and enjoy themed markets at the spot. Organizers have also developed a variety of "cherry blossom plus" items such as cherry blossom ice cream, cherry blossom coffee and yogurt.

In addition, visitors are encouraged to submit photos and videos of their moments at the festival. Those who join the online collection may have the chance to win a gift.

To celebrate the flower festival, the city's bus company has decorated the bus stations at the park with cherry blossom elements. Visitors will feel the delights of the festival as soon as they disembark a bus. The flowers at the park have reached full bloom and the flowering season could last for a month.
