A Chinese saying goes, "Things have myriad ways to thrive, but these all come down to keeping their roots intact." In part because of this sense of origins, the Chinese civilization has grown and flourished. In a keynote speech delivered at a meeting on cultural inheritance and development on June 2, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, "The inherent continuity of Chinese civilization determines that it is inevitable that the Chinese nation will follow its own path. It is impossible to understand ancient China, let alone modern and future China, without an understanding of China's long-standing continuity."

In this episode of "Classic Quotes by Xi Jinping," CGTN host Tang Haiping and commentator Konstantin Shepin visit Ma Yanru, a cultural relic restoration expert, to learn about the protection of cultural relics in China and feel the spiritual importance of preserving a civilization's roots.
