In April 2019, the giant pandas Ding Ding and Ru Yi arrived in Moscow. In August of last year, their cub was born, marking the first ever panda cub born in Russia. The name "Katyusha" was selected among the votes in a name contest which attracted over 380,000 participants.

"Katyusha is six and a half months old today. She weighs 16.5 kilograms and measures 100 centimeters in length. She is a big baby now. She came into this open enclosure for the first time, and the whole Russia is watching her," said Svetlana Akulova, general director of the Moscow Zoo.

A number of tourists lined up at the zoo to see the adorable panda cub.

"Giant pandas are a symbol of China," said a tourist. "They are rare animals," another tourist added.

"We came here to see Katyusha. We have known about her for a while, as we have seen a lot of information about her on social media. We saw the news that the zoo is planning to move Katyusha to the public exhibition area so that everyone can come and see her. This is a big event because she is the first giant panda born in Russia," said a tourist.
