The 'Camel Caravans' of today

04:58

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain. Over the past half century, the two countries have respected each other as equals, deepened mutual political trust and maintained cooperation in various fields.

The Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe, or YXE freight train, also known as the China-Europe Railway Express, departs from China's Yiwu for Spain's Madrid. With a total length of 13,052 kilometers, the whole journey takes 21 days and is the longest freight rail route in the world.

YXE benefited from the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which was proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013. Feng Xubin, chairman of YXE Trading Service Group, was encouraged by the BRI, accelerating the opening of the YXE. On November 18, 2014, the first YXE train departed from Yiwu. Now, YXE can reach more than 160 cities in over 50 countries.

Xi has always cared for the development of the China-Europe Railway Express. According to the latest data, China-Europe freight trains have reached 219 cities in 25 European countries, with a total of more than 85,000 trains running and more than 8.1 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of cargo delivered since the service began, making outstanding contributions to the economic development of China and Europe.
