A cultural fair featuring China Chic was held from March 7 to 10 at Yongquan Town in Linhai City, east China's Zhejiang Province, with the qipao – the traditional Chinese close-fitting dress also known as the cheongsam – taking center stage.
Models displayed various types of qipao and other new Chinese-style garments, mixing traditional Chinese elements with modern designs, to showcase the Oriental aesthetic. Visitors could also take part in a variety of activities such as making handicrafts.
With a history of mulberry cultivation and embroidery, Yongquan is the ideal base for qipao manufacturing. The rising popularity of China Chic in recent years has brought new opportunities to the town, where more and more businesses are focusing on the new Chinese styles of qipao as their main products. Statistics from the local government show that more than 40 percent of the qipao made in China were produced in Yongquan.
