The Russia-Ukraine conflict is at risk of further escalation, which is not in line with the common interests of the international community, including China and Germany, China's special envoy said on Saturday.

China is willing to work with Germany to support the convening of a peace conference at an appropriate time with the equal participation of all parties to pave the way for an early ceasefire, said Li Hui, the special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian affairs, during talks with Thomas Bagger, the state secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

The two sides exchanged candid and in-depth views on China-Germany relations, the Ukraine crisis, the peace process and other issues of common interest.

Li also briefed the German side about his shuttle diplomacy with Russian, Ukrainian and European officials to pass messages and build consensus over the past week.

For his part, Bagger expressed appreciation toward China for its positive role in promoting the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and for Li's efforts in shuttle diplomacy.

He said Germany shares a lot of understanding with China about the current crisis situation, the next step, and the prospects for peace talks, and it is willing to continue to maintain communication with China.

The Chinese special envoy arrived in Moscow last Saturday to begin the second round of shuttle diplomacy concerning the Ukraine crisis. He also visited Brussels, the headquarters of the European Union, Poland, and Ukraine.

Li is scheduled to visit France before wrapping up his Europe tour.
