China and Malawi established diplomatic relations in 2007. Since then, China and Malawi have witnessed fast and sound development with fruitful corporation in various fields. In March 2022, Malawi signed a memorandum of understanding with China on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), embarking on a new journey of cooperation. CGTN host Zheng Junfeng interviewed Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera during his trip to Changsha City, Hunan Province. President Chakwera believes the BRI is the 'catalyst' for Malawi to achieve its goals, helping the country transform from a land-locked to a land-linked economy.
