The Altai Mountains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are characterized by altitudinal vegetation zones and magnificent biodiversity.
After months of snowfall and hibernation, the Kanas Lake revives with enormous vitality.
Estimated to be 200,000 years old, the lake has its deepest point nearly 200 meters below the surface. The gigantic natural reservoir contains more than 5 billion cubic meters of water. The surrounding glaciers, holding 11.7 billion cubic meters of fresh water, serve as a steady supply to the lake.
Abundant natural resources make the beautiful Kanas Lake "a paradise on Earth."
