A 14th National People's Congress (NPC) deputy on Monday said that national unity is like sunshine and air, and is in the blood of every person in China.
Thanks to the implementation of national policies to benefit the people, "the pockets of the people of Lhoba are bulging," Tashi Gyaltsen, a deputy to the 14th NPC, and also a grassroots official from southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, said at a Deputies' Corridor event ahead of the closing meeting of the second session of the 14th NPC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Lhoba, an ethnic group in southeast Xizang, is one of the smallest among China's 56 ethnic groups in terms of population.
The development of the road network in the region has resulted in many new opportunities for the people, he noted.
"The G219 highway passes our doorstep, the border townships have become points of call for tourists from all over the world, the villagers have opened lodging, restaurants, catering for tourists' meals," he said.
Tashi then introduced the costume he wore, one of the many traditional items of clothing worn by the Lhoba ethnic group, which he said was like a beautiful blooming flower of Lhoba in the great garden of the Chinese nation.
