China's auto exports surged 30.5 percent year on year to 822,000 units in the first two months of this year, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed Monday.

Specifically, the exports of new energy vehicles (NEVs) expanded 7.5 percent year on year to stand at 182,000 units, while the exports of traditional fossil fuel vehicles soared 39 percent to approximately 640,000 units.

Experts from the CAAM said that China's automobile industry is showing strong competitiveness in the global market and is likely to maintain the sound momentum, thanks to its technological innovation, cost control and mature industrial chains.

The NEV sector has expanded from scratch to what it is now in just over a decade. Last year alone, the production and sales volume exceeded 9 million, accounting for more than 60 percent of the global share, according to this year's China's government work report.

The country's NEVs have gained momentum overseas in recent years.

In 2023, 87 percent of electric vehicles cleared from Jordan's free zone were from China, the highest percentage to date, according to the Jordan Free Zones Investor Commission.

Sales of Chinese electric cars in Jordan have grown significantly over the past two years, and this trend has continued since the beginning of this year, Jihad Abu Nasser, representative of the vehicle sector in the commission, said in a recent interview with Xinhua.

High quality, affordability and availability of maintenance are among the key factors attracting Jordanians to own Chinese electric vehicles, he added.

There are more Chinese NEVs running on the roads of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well.

During the COP28 climate change conference held in the UAE last December, electric buses from China were used to provide shuttle services to attendees.

And in 2022, NEVs from an independent automotive Chinese brand joined the Dubai police fleet, the first NEV brand globally to do so.

China Media Group reported that a local agency in Dubai has received hundreds of orders for Chinese NEVs this year, which will be used for local online car hailing and other operational vehicles. This will enhance the market influence of Chinese NEV brands and strengthen the awareness of local consumers.
