China's southernmost island-province is on the brink of becoming an economic powerhouse thanks to the construction of its free trade port with Chinese characteristics and is already a window to the country's reform and opening-up. Personally planned, deployed, and promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping, its economy masterplan focuses on the development of high-quality new productive forces and promotes low-carbon and green industries and lifestyles to make it a world-class destination and a magnet for investors and visitors alike. As CGTN introduces The Forefront, a special series features talks on China's governance with the country’s ministers and governors, anchor Wang Guan sat down with Feng Fei, Secretary of Hainan's CPC Provincial Committee, for an exclusive interview to discuss Hainan's main policies and initiatives to foster growth and boost economic development. Feng Fei elaborates on Hainan's "Four Pillars, Three Strengths, and Three Premium Service Sectors" to increase Hainan's quality, resilience and competitiveness. Looking at the Hainan Free Trade Port's independent customs operations, Feng Fei believes that this policy will be a milestone for the facilitation of free trade on the island. Capitalizing on its location, its environment and its biodiversity, Hainan is also pioneering multiple initiatives geared toward making the most of its strengths and advantages while protecting its invaluable natural assets. From green industries to tourism, from infrastructure to world-famous exhibitions and events such as the Boao Forum for Asia and the China International Consumer Products Expo, Hainan has nurtured its domestic and global reputation and is now becoming a force to be reckoned with.
