The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the presidential election is the internal affair of the United States, and China will not interfere in the U.S. election.
China has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, and it will not interfere in U.S. election, said Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a regular press briefing in Beijing.
Wang made the remarks when asked to comment as U.S. President Joe Biden and former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to U.S. media projections on Tuesday, have secured enough delegates to become their respective party's 2024 presidential nominee, setting the stage for a grueling general election rematch.
Making China-U.S. relations develop well is in the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, and also follows the common expectation of the international community, said Wang.
"No matter who is elected as next president of the U.S., we hope that the U.S. can meet China halfway and advance China-U.S. relations in the stable, sound, and sustainable direction in the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation for the benefits of both countries and the world," he said.
