Cha spent 13 years in Haining, completing his middle school education before moving to Hong Kong, where he developed his successful career as a writer, journalist, entrepreneur, critic, and social activist. In 1998, the writer's house in Haining was rebuilt by the local authorities based on the original house after hearing Cha's opinions and recommendations. Over the years, Cha's former residence in Haining has become a base for his fans to study his literary works and thoughts.

To commemorate the great writer and the concepts he espoused in his work that "a truly great martial arts master is one who serves his homeland and the people," the local authorities in Haining began renovating Cha's former residence in the latter half of 2023.

After the renovation, Cha's former residence in Haining was restored to show more of the writer's living quarters, such as the room where he was born and his study. More original materials depicting the writer's legendary life are also on display, including the manuscripts, newspapers and magazines where his serial novels and editorials were first published.
