China's e-government services have been greatly improved as the country further integrates its digital government platforms. As of March 2023, the National Government Service Platform had 1 billion registered users and had been visited 86 billion times, according to a recent report by China Internet Network Information Center.
The platform allows users to access thousands of standardized online services such as electronic social security and medical cards, cross-provincial medical treatment filing, and inter-provincial transfer and housing provident fund services.
The management of government websites has become increasingly standardized and efficient over the years, bringing the number from more than 80,000 in 2015 to 13,946 in 2022.
Government websites serve as information platforms, facilitating interaction between citizens and authorities, disseminating government policies, announcements, and important news, promoting transparent governance and citizen engagement. The integration of government websites is an effective way to avoid repetition and ambiguity and thus enhance the government's serviceability.
According to the UN E-Government Survey 2022, China ranked 43rd among 193 countries in e-government development in 2022, up from 78th in 2012. China was one of the countries that saw the biggest improvement in terms of its e-government ranking, according to the survey.
