Huiyu Island, lying four kilometers off the coast of Quanzhou in Fujian Province, is home to more than a thousand residents. In 2020, Xiao Jinzhang returned from the mainland to take over from his father as the island's only doctor. To ensure the health status of every villager, Dr. Xiao regularly reaches out to them, either through phone calls or by visiting them in their homes. He has also built up a detailed health record for virtually every individual. Life on Huiyu Island is rarely exciting, and as the only doctor he's doesn't have much free time to visit the mainland whenever he wants. Still, Dr. Xiao says he feels settled now, and is committed to serving the villagers as best he can.
