China ranked 43rd among all 193 UN member states in the bloc's latest biennial assessment of the digital government landscape, up from 78th in 2012, and was one of the countries that saw the biggest improvement in terms of its e-government ranking.
The E-Government Development Index (EGDI), which assesses e-government development at the national level, is a composite index based on the weighted average of three normalized indices, namely the Online Service Index (OSI), the Human Capital Index (HCI), and the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index (TII).
The country's EGDI value stood at 0.8119 in 2022, higher than the global average value of 0.6102, putting it at the "very high" EGDI level. Its EGDI sub-components, namely OSI, HCI and TII, reached 0.8876, 0.7429 and 0.8050, respectively, according to the UN E-Government Survey 2022.
