The Republic of the Congo hopes to partner with its neighbors and China to build a road that connects Africa from coast to coast as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, said Denis Sassou Nguesso, the Central African country's president.

China and the Republic of the Congo marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in February. In an interview with China Media Group, Sassou Nguesso spoke of the close cooperation with China in many areas.

"You presented a symbolic project. We called it the August 15th Bridge to demonstrate the connection between our country's independence and progress and our willingness to build our nation. We cooperate with China in many areas. We built other roads and hydroelectric dams. We also cooperate with China in medicine and health, agriculture, animal husbandry and many other fields," said Sassou Nguesso.
