Construction has begun on a key road-rail bridge meant to connect the national rail system to Zhoushan, an urbanized island off the coast of east China's Zhejiang Province. The Zhoushan Archipelago, the largest archipelago in China, comprises of more than 1,300 islands. Upon completion, the dual-use Fuchimen Bridge is expected to carry vehicles alongside trains on the over-1,700 meter long Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway line and link Zhuoshan Island with the smaller Fuchi Island to the west. The entire Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway project is expected to be operational by 2028, spanning some 76 kilometers and carrying trains traveling up to 250 kilometers per hour.
