Livestock migration spanning 253 years in Xinjiang's Bayanbulak

01:42

As early as 1771, herdsmen settled in the Bayanbulak Grassland, adopting a nomadic lifestyle. The name Bayanbulak means "abundant spring" in Mongolian, and it is in the Tianshan Mountains in northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

In Bayanbulak, most herders have their own pastures, which are categorized according to the season into winter, spring, autumn, and summer pastures. This year, the spring migration of livestock from winter to spring pastures commenced in early March and is projected to conclude by the end of the month.
