Thousands took to the street of Tel Aviv on Saturday night to call for a deal to release the hostages held by Hamas and for elections. The protesters expressed anger over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the war in Gaza. Water cannons were deployed against the protesters, and police clashed with demonstrators while attempting to clear the roads. Netanyahu's office on Friday announced approval of military plans to target Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, where approximately 1.4 million displaced Palestinians are sheltering. The government has rejected calls for a permanent ceasefire, insisting on achieving its stated objective of "annihilating Hamas."
