Putin wins Russian presidential election with 87.28 percent of the vote

Incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin won the presidential election with 87.28% of votes after all ballots were counted, Russian media reported on Monday, citing preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Nikolai Kharitonov of the Russian Communist Party came in second with 4.31% of votes, followed by Vladislav Davankov of the New People Party with 3.85% and Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party with 3.20% of total votes. 

According to the CEC, the official election results will be announced on Thursday.

The CEC also said the nationwide turnout was 74.22% at 1800 GMT when polls closed, surpassing 2018's levels of 67.5%.
