A Chinese spokesperson said on Tuesday that the Czech Republic should abide by the one-China principle, handle the Taiwan question prudently and properly, and not send wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to reports that China's Taiwan region's vice leader-elect, Hsiao Bi-khim, visited the Czech Republic.
"We strongly oppose official interaction of any form, under any pretext, between China's Taiwan region and countries that have diplomatic relations with China," said Chen.
The Democratic Progressive Party authorities collude with external forces and resort to various means to achieve so-called "diplomatic" breakthroughs and serve the purpose of "Taiwan independence," he noted.
That has harmed the fundamental interests of Taiwan compatriots, said Chen. But that cannot change the fact that Taiwan is part of China, and that does not contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, he added.
