On the day of Chunfen, or the vernal equinox, the fourth solar term of traditional Chinese calendar, many meteorology enthusiasts and shutterbugs have arrived at the Taosi relics site to pay a visit to the ancient observatory there. Located in Xiangfen County, north China's Shanxi Province, the Taosi relics site is an important Neolithic site dating back more than 4,300 years. On the day of the vernal equinox, the sunlight will cross the gap between two certain stone pillars and reach an observing point. The ancient observatory– which includes 13 stone pillars forming a semicircular shape – serves as important proof of the advanced development of Chinese astronomy in ancient times.
