This week, Beijing became the epicenter of global fashion trends with the opening of the autumn/winter 2024 (AW2024) Beijing Fashion Week, running from March 18 to 22. It's a fusion of art, culture, and technology, setting the stage for a high-quality leap in the development of the capital's fashion culture industry.

This season, the honor of opening the fashion week goes to Xiong Ying, a designer who weaves Chinese traditional craftsmanship with contemporary art. Notably, the designer released her previous collection at Beijing Fashion Week's awards ceremony of last year.

While she has opened and closed China Fashion Week on several occasions, this marks the first time she has opened Beijing Fashion Week, adding a new benchmark to her career and once again stamping her presence in the fashion world.

"This collection is called Huaxia Bihua, with Bihua being the ancient Chinese name for the moon. The inspiration comes from the moon and the beautiful yearnings it represents for the Chinese people. So, I mainly use soft and vibrant colors such as creamy white, pale green and light pink in the designs. I also incorporate Suzhou embroidery and the Kesi weaving technique, a style of traditional Chinese silk tapestry with intricate designs," said the designer.

Her autumn/winter 2024 collection is a tribute to the elegance of Eastern women, embodying the essence of Chinese wisdom and aesthetics. Xiong Ying launched her fashion label Heaven Gaia in 2013, making her a pioneering spirit in China's fashion industry. Since then, she has dedicated herself to integrating traditional Chinese culture into her creations.

"My fashion designs are deeply rooted in our culture. As a designer, Chinese culture has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for my imagination and creativity. Through my designs and contemporary aesthetics, I strive to eloquently showcase the essence of Chinese culture. My enthusiasm for exploring this area knows no bounds," added the designer.

But it's not just about established names. This year, Beijing Fashion Week shines a spotlight on the future of fashion, with a new project aimed at nurturing young Chinese designers – who are set to infuse the industry with fresh ideas and energy.

The "WEEK UP" exhibition is a spotlight event, providing a platform for brands to unveil their innovative designs, forge new business connections, and tap into a wellspring of resources. From designers like Zhang Yichao, to cutting-edge labels, the exhibition is a melting pot of fashion design concepts and traditional craftsmanship.

AW2024 Beijing Fashion Week promises to be a showcase of innovation, creativity, and the beautiful dance between old and new. From the heart of Beijing, this event is set to shape the future of fashion, both in China and around the world.
