March 20 marks the solar term of Chunfen, or the vernal equinox. On the day of Chunfen, the sunlight shines vertically on the equator which results in the equal length of day and night in both of Earth's two hemispheres. It is also a time when most parts of northern China experience warm spring weather and various kinds of blossoms start to bloom. To mark the solar term and welcome the arrival of warm spring, people practice the popular folk custom of erecting eggs in many places.
