The International Day of Forests has been celebrated annually since it was established on March 21, 2012 by the United Nations General Assembly, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of all types of forests and protect an eco-friendly environment for future generations. Themed "Forests and innovation: new solutions for a better world" this year, the world is encouraged to organize activities involving forests and trees. Over a long term, China has been making concerted efforts to plant trees, protect forests, launch forest protection projects and other measures to tackle deforestation problems and protect the natural environment.
