A magnitude-5.3 earthquake hit Southern Ibaraki Prefecture in eastern Japan on Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The tremors were felt in central Tokyo. No tsunami warnings were issued by the JMA.
According to East Japan Railway Company, or JR East, operation of the Tohoku Shinkansen train has been suspended between Tokyo Station and Koriyama Station in Fukushima Prefecture due to a power outage caused by the quake.
