Scholar on U.S. governance: 'The opposite of democracy'

01:11

"If you are not putting people first, if you are not committed to common prosperity, if you are not helping others develop, but rather exploiting others, your system is based on exploitation, oppression ... then can we call you democratic?" Josef Gregory Mahoney, professor of Politics and International Relations at East China Normal University, shared his sharp take on the U.S. system during an interview with CGTN on March 20.

While attending The 3rd International Forum on Democracy: The Shared Human Values, which took place in Beijing, he discussed how the current domestic politics and overseas diplomacy make the U.S. the opposite of democracy.
